Crew Change
Crew change is permitted at all South African ports providing Flight tickets are arranged prior to arrival in South Africa. Once disembarked from vessel, signed off crew is only permitted to remain in the country for 48 hours only, unless the agent makes prior arrangement. Standard document required for crew change is valid passport or a seaman's book.Crew transfer may also be done at off port limits; launch costs are available on application.
Bunker Information
Bunkers are available at all ports in South Africa except Saldanha Bay. Due to adverse weather conditions along the South African cost, replenishment of bunkers are not permitted at off port limits.Bunkering at Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town are supplied by Pipeline. At Richards Bay, East London can be supplied only by Barge. However, barge services are also available at these ports should the bunker berth be occupied.
Vessels calling to Saldanha Bay are advised to replenish bunkers at other ports prior to arrival at this port.
Notice required for supply of bunkers is normally 24 hours or more, but in cases of emergency, supply can be obtained depending on the speed processing of bunker stem. Delivery of fuel oil ex wharf pipeline, using 6m length hoses, up to a maximum length of 30m.
The pump rate is between 150 and 200 m/tons per hour in summer and between 100 and 150 m/tons per hour in winter, depending on the height of the ship manifold above the wharf side. There are no loading arms available.
If dedicated bunker berths in Durban and Cape Town are occupied, vessels calling solely for bunkers will be allocated a cargo working berth, provided that there are no vessels waiting to work cargo at that berth.
Tariff for vessel calling for bunkers is available on application. However, if a vessel is calling at these ports solely for the purpose of bunkering, then a reduction of 50% of the port dues will be allowed and a further reduction of 15% should the port stay is less than 12 hours.
